Cellulite affects 90% of women and 10% of men (1). Cellulite is just normal fat beneath your skin. It looks lumpy because it pushes up against connective tissue beneath the skin. There is no way to really eliminate it. But there are ways to help reduce it. I'm not delivering ground breaking science or delivering a magic pill. Just sharing a recipe for a cream that helps to hydrate the skin and reduce inflammation which in turn can help to smooth out the appearance of it’s bumps and lumps.
Nothing can substitute for eating a healthy diet and exercising enough. What causes cellulite aside from a poor diet, lack of exercise, and increased body fat? The following factors can also contribute to the development of cellulite (2)
Fluid retention (which also causes bloating)
Lack of circulation (blood flow)
Weak collagen structure of the skin
Again,this cream will not make your cellulite disappear. But it could potentially help to “heal” cellulite and reduce the appearance of it by hydrating the skin and reducing inflammation. Coconut oil and shea butter both help to hydrate and soften the skin.
The National Center for Biotechnology Information published a study that shea nuts and shea fat (shea butter) are made up of a significant source of anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor promoting compounds (3). Another study from the American Journal of Life Sciences claims that shea butter boosts collagen production. Collagen the main protein of connective tissue. When collagen decreases the skin becomes weak and the protruding fat cells become more visible (4). Grapefruit essential oil also contains large amounts of the anti-inflammatory enzymes (5).
So there it is. The cream is easy to make. Apply daily. Consistency is key!
